Permits

Permits, handled.

Every Anchor EV install that adds a new circuit is permitted and inspected by your county. We take care of all of it: we file the permit, pay the county fee, schedule the inspection, and meet the inspector. The county fee shows on your quote at cost, usually $75–$125.

Do I need a permit for a home EV charger?

If we're adding a new circuit or hardwiring a charger, yes. Virginia's building code requires one. Plugging a charger into an existing outlet that's already rated for it doesn't need a permit.

What does the permit cost?

Your county sets the fee. In most of Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley it's $75–$125. It's listed on your quote at cost, with no markup.

Will the permit slow things down?

Rarely. Most counties issue electrical permits online within a few business days. We file the day you approve your quote and schedule your install around it.

Do I need to be home for the inspection?

Usually not. The inspector only needs to see the garage and the panel. A garage keypad code or a lockbox works fine. We'll confirm with you ahead of time.

Why does a permit matter?

It's an independent safety check on the work. It also keeps your records clean if you sell your home, and it supports any insurance claim tied to the charger or circuit. Some rebate programs also ask for proof of a permit.

What if the inspector flags something?

We fix it at no charge and handle the re-inspection.
